Hoeven is one of the 5 cores of the municipality of Halderberge. Hoeven is best known for "Bosbad Hoeven" nowadays Splesj!. This water play paradise for young and old is located in the Pagnevaartbos between Hoeven, Bosschenhoofd and Oudenbosch. There is first mention of Hoeven in 1282 when the Lord of Breda sold land to the Bishop of Antwerp. This territory extends over a large area between Bergen op Zoom and Breda and at that time consists mainly of marshlands. In Hoeven, a country house was built for the Bishop. From this place, the territory is cultivated and made usable for agriculture and cattle breeding. The country house grows into a priestly college for the diocese of Breda and remains so in modified form to this day. The same premises now house a restaurant and hotel.
Hoeven is a perfect base for sports enthusiasts who love bikes and hiking keep. The village is right on the border of sand and clay, so you will find polders and rivers to the north and heaths and forests to the south. This is what makes this region so varied. There is also plenty to see and experience for culture lovers. Grand Seminary Bovendonk is a national monument worth visiting.
