From kitchen garden to botanical garden

Stroll past the Arboretum's unique flower and plant collection in the heart of Oudenbosch. The botanical garden, laid out in English style, consists of a European, American and Asian plant collection. This collection includes the special collections of horse chestnuts, snowberry and spice bushes. Some collections comprise more than 60 different species. The garden covers 4 hectares including a pond, a tea dome and a greenhouse. The Arboretum has over 2,500 different trees and plants. In particular, the botanical garden has a majestic Weeping Beech. The entrance is located in the former bakery of the monastery. The bakery is also a national monument, built by a pupil of the famous architect Pierre Cuypers.

History of Botanical Garden Arboretum

The garden's rich history began when the Latin School moved to the site of today's Arboretum in 1835. Later, the Brothers of Saint Louis and Jesuit Fathers in particular filled in this area. In 1987, work began on furnishing and collecting the area into a botanical garden. The garden is constantly evolving. The special collection makes the garden a colourful place all year round. The Arboretum is the green pearl in the historical heart of Oudenbosch, opposite the Basilica of Oudenbosch.
