There is also plenty to do on and around the water. Sail your own boat into the region, rent a canoe or sup, or enjoy a relaxing cruise. Halderberge is the perfect place to recharge your batteries - in the middle of Brabant's outdoor life.

Enjoying nature in Halderberge

Halderberge offers plenty of space for walking, cycling and enjoying nature. Scattered across the municipality are three special nature reserves, each with its own character and charm.

Pagnevaartbos - tranquillity, history and greenery

Between Bosschenhoofd, Oudenbosch and Hoeven lies the Pagnevaartbos: a varied forest area of some 35 hectares. Walk past old trees, quiet ponds and winding paths. The Pagnevaartvijver, a remnant of a historic peat canal, regularly runs dry and is a reminder of the area's past. Nearby, you will find cosy cafés and restaurants for a well-deserved break.

Gastels Laag - a rugged and expansive nature reserve

Southwest of Oud Gastel lies the Gastels Laag, a unique peatland area with sparse grassland, blue grassland and an old alder forest. This 23-hectare area is a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers. The special flora and fauna make every walk here a voyage of discovery.

Hoevense Beemden - where water meets landscape

North of Hoeven you will find the Hoevense Beemden, an oasis of tranquillity with a rich history. Here you can still see traces of peat extraction, reclamation and agriculture. The area is traversed by an unpaved cycle path and offers beautiful views of marshy forests, flowery meadows and winding creeks.

For little outdoor enthusiasts

In Oud Gastel is a Play forest where kids can play freely. Here, youngsters can not only run, cross-country ski, climb and build huts to their heart's content, but also see, feel and smell nature. There is a barefoot path, a willow tunnel, an insect hotel, walking and sitting poles, balance beams and no fewer than twenty self-painted bird houses in and around the play forest. There is also a giant picnic table and bench. Natural materials such as tree trunks, branches, shells, sand and stones have been used as much as possible. Cute gnome posts show children the way to the play forest from different directions.

Taking to the water

You can go boating in Halderberge on the river Mark or Dintel. You can moor your own boat in one of the three harbours. It is also possible to take a boat trip, rent a canoe or a sup. All you need to know about activities on and around the Halderberge waterways is at here.

Oudenbosch botanical garden

Stroll through the serene paths, listen to the rustling of leaves and marvel at nature's diversity.
