The 5 villages of Halderberge

The 5 villages of Halderberge

You won't find Halderberge municipality on a map. This is because it is an amalgamation of, as we call it, 'the five cores'. Villages Oudenbosch, Oud Gastel, Hooves, Bosschenhoofd and Stampersgat Together form the municipality of Halderberge. A piece of undiscovered territory for tourists, but more than worth a visit. Whether you come here for peace and quiet or are looking for adventure, you will enjoy yourself in the five villages of Halderberge.

Stampersgat

Visiting for the ultimate peace and quiet? You'll certainly find that in Stampersgat. A small village located along the Dintel, with little activity, but plenty of space for cycling, walking with views over the Polders. An ideal base for a beautiful route along the five cores of Halderberge. Nice tip: picnic in the river Mark in good weather. At the little harbour of Stampersgat, there are 10 picnic tables, where you can picnic (best dressed in swimwear) while floating with your feet in the river.

Enthusiastic and thinking about maybe spending a night too? Then take a look at the accommodation options. There are plenty of campsites, B&B and hotels in Halderberge.

Oudenbosch

Oudenbosch is surely the best-known in the list, our 'Koepelstadje'. You can admire the dome of the Basilica from afar, so you can't really avoid Oudenbosch and Halderberge. If you think that is the only highlight in the village, you are sorely mistaken. There is so much more religious heritage to admire. During your visit to Oudenbosch, you will almost imagine yourself in an Italian village. This Italian atmosphere is thanks to none other than Pastor Hellemons. His love for Roman Catholic life can still be felt today. Read more or book your guided city tour in advance.

Oud Gastel

Oud Gastel may be a small village within Halderberge, but it does have two major highlights. The village is marked by two churches; the Sint-Laurentius church, a neo-Gothic structure from 1906. Another special attraction is the Mastboomhuis on Dorpsstraat 44. This house was built from 1874. Henry Mastboom was the last occupant of this house. After he died in 1999, everything remained as it was: the entire interior, the calendar and even the fly swatter on the table. The village is filled with many properties with beautiful façades, making a walk through the village definitely worthwhile.

Oudenbosch tourist information point

Bosschenhoofd

Bosschenhoofd is all about aviation. Upon entering the village, you will see Breda International Airport, better known as the former 'Seppe'. From here it is possible to take a roundtrip to make or a parachute jump venture. Located at the airport is the Aviation Museum, where old aeroplanes can be admired and kids get to sit in a plane themselves. Had enough of all the adventure?
