Halderberge breathes culture - and that's something to be celebrated!

From atmospheric village centres to impressive heritage sites, Halderberge is home to a rich collection of culture and history. September is all about experiencing, discovering and surprising. And that gets off to a good start with Heritage Day on 13 and 14 September.

During this nationwide event, thousands of monuments open their doors to the public - free and open to all. This year's theme is 'Heritage and Architecture', and let that be exactly what Halderberge excels at. From stately churches to hidden gems: be surprised by the stories behind the facades and discover how these buildings were 'built to last'.

For example, during this weekend you will visit the Basilica of Oudenbosch and guides will take you through the story of this extraordinary building. Climb the dome (140 steps) and discover architect Cuijpers' impressive crypt, which can be visited in the afternoon. Here you will also immediately find the shop, perfect for a souvenir from this weekend! (Souvenir tip - The reprint of Suske en Wiske en de Vliegende Klomp).

Do you know the Protestant Church in Oudenbosch already? This historic building, which has been around since 1613, is a real hidden gem right in the centre. All weekend, you can take a look at it and, as icing on the cake, you will find an impressive Red Beech tree that is more than 200 years old in the backyard!

Enjoy some peace and quiet and nature? Visit The Arboretum Botanical Gardens. So don't forget to take a look at the various exhibitions!

On 14 September, British researcher Jade Nunn will give an English-language lecture in the Zouave Museum On the forgotten stories of the Zouaves. Because of Open Monument Day, the museum and lecture are free to visit! View here all information about the lecture.  

Not only in Oudenbosch, but in all Halderberge's centres you can enjoy the rich cultural heritage during Open Monument Day!

The Mast Tree House offers a unique insight into the life of a former mayor's family, where time still stands still. For the 11th year in a row, there will be an open day at the St. Maartenspolder windmill in Hoeven!

Be sure not to forget the beautiful H. St. Laurentius Church in Oud Gastel to visit! Thanks to the beautiful light falling through the stained-glass windows, the church's impressive biblical paintings come to life. Did you know that The local history society in Oud Gastel opens its archives especially for Open Monument Day? You can see unique photos, construction drawings and historical documents of buildings that tell the story of the village.

Enjoy art, music and culture

Besides heritage, Halderberge also has a lot to offer in terms of art, music and culture. During the seventh edition of The Halderberge Art and Studio Route discover the work of local and regional artists at no less than 33 locations spread across all nuclei of the municipality. Grand Outdoor Spectacle in Oud Gastel

A particular highlight this year is 'The spirit of the tower', a historic open-air spectacle on the Market Square in Oud Gastel. In honour of the 750th anniversary, the protagonists will make a cultural time travel through the village's history. Tickets are here bookable for €7.50 - don't miss it!
