Black Sheep Swing Band is a young and enterprising big band from West Brabant. The band rehearses weekly under the direction of professional bandleader Daan Bogers and performs on average about ten times a year, both at private parties and at larger events. The band has a cosy, informal and enthusiastic atmosphere among itself, which is reflected in the way the band puts away its performances. The audience really appreciates this! The band's repertoire is particularly varied. It ranges from 'old school' big band music, through Glenn Miller swing, via sparkling 70s soul, to contemporary pop music in a 'big band jacket'. This allows the band to tailor its choice of music to the atmosphere of the event. In addition to their regular singer Monique ten Cate, Oudenbosch-born Brigit Segers will join the Black Sheep as a guest singer at this concert!
The Valley Sound Big Band from Roosendaal was formally established in 1984. The Valley Sound Big Band loves musical challenges and the orchestra has currently been under the enthusiastic leadership of Peter Bogers for many years. The big band is reinforced with sparkling singers and/or vocalists, performing swinging repertoire with a nod to Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Gordon Goodwin and the greats of the Motown stable. Apart from the aforementioned repertoire, well-known songs from the seventies, eighties and nineties are also played, and the big band swings optimally to arrangements by well-known artists such as Robbie Williams, Michael Bublé, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau and Norah Jones. The Valley Sound Big Band is a wonderful orchestra that, on the one hand, stands its ground musically technically and, on the other, delivers a swinging performance as a musical mood creator. In short, a cultural gem from Roosendaal. We've got the music in us!
FBBB - Frits Bayens Big Band, founded in 1975, has developed into a professional-level big band over the past 45 years under the inspiring leadership of Frits Bayens. The band is composed of highly experienced musicians with a great passion for jazz. Since 5 October 2020, the band has been under the inspiring leadership of Jasper Staps. The Frits Bayens Bigband consists of passionate jazz musicians. Not coincidentally, the orchestra has become a breeding ground for well-known national jazz musicians. How about pianist Rob van Bavel, bassist Marc van Rooy, trombonist Loek Boudesteijn and drummer Hans van Oosterhout, for instance, who have all contributed to this ensemble. Besides the more traditional idiom of Sammy Nestico and still hip repertoire of Thad Jones, the emphasis in recent years has been on compositions and arrangements by Dutch composers/arrangers such as Jerry van Rooyen, Rob Pronk but also founder Frits Bayens. Furthermore, the repertoire folder shows scores by Bill Holman, Michael Abene, Bob Mintzer, John Clayton, Vince Mendoza and Maria Schneider.
The central meeting place in the heart of Oudenbosch, the beautiful garden of Tivoli the former friars' house of the brothers of Saint Louis, is the stage for this festival. In 1835, the Jesuits settled at this beautiful location in Oudenbosch with their philosophicum (Philosophical College). In 1877, the present monastery complex was built. A beautiful building with Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance features. This building was designed by Nicolaas Molenaar Sr, a pupil of the very famous architect Pierre Cuijpers.
If you want to make it a complete outing, you can enjoy dinner before the concert at Villa D'este. For reservations, email or call +31 (0)165 726 996.
