The Puit

On Jesuit Square stands the carnival monument of 'ut Puitenol'. That is the name of Oudenbosch with carnival. Puit is a West Brabant word for frog. It was placed at the 44th anniversary of the Oudenbosch Carnival Foundation in 1995. This fulfilled a deeply cherished wish.

The sculpture depicts a puit sitting on a well. The Puit
is made of bronze and was created by the well-known
artist Leon Vermunt. The well is made of paving stones, as
once the Market was paved.
On the foundation's 66th anniversary in 2017, the Puit
company of a 'fathead'. Again, this monument is from
the hand of Leon Vermunt. The tadpole is exactly 22 years
after placement of the puit unveiled. The date was 25 February
2017.
In October 2023, the monuments of the Jan
Gielenplein to a new location at
Jesuit Square. At this spot too, the Puit again looks into
towards the 'old Tivoli', the place where the Foundation
Oudenbossche Karnaval was ever founded.
