This walking route of about 10 kilometres takes you past lush forests and vast fields, allowing you to enjoy the peace and beauty that this picturesque area has to offer. Here you can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while and immerse yourself in these beautiful surroundings.

The walking route starts in the charming village of Bosschenhoofd, located in the municipality of Halderberge. This village is a picturesque starting point for walkers who want to be enchanted by the natural beauty of the area. The well-signposted route with junctions leads you effortlessly through the idyllic streets of the village. Along the way, you will also pass the old Retreat House, a historic monastery building in neo-Gothic style that provided a refuge for people seeking spiritual peace for more than a century.

The route then takes you through the Pagnevaart forest, a lush woodland with winding paths and an abundance of sparrows, tree falcons and woodpeckers. As you walk among the majestic trees, perhaps on the same path Vincent van Gogh took in 1881, there are plenty of cosy cafes and restaurants in and around the forest to take a rest.

After wandering around the Pagnevaart forest, you reach Seppe Airport (now Breda International Airport). Home to several gliding clubs, this airport offers a beautiful spectacle of hovering planes moving through the air like birds.

After about an hour and a half, you will return to the atmospheric town of Bosschenhoofd. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or just looking for a relaxing outing in nature, this walking route will enchant you with its charm and beautiful scenery.

Winding waterways in the Hoevense Beemden

In the middle of Oudenbosch, a beautiful nature reserve reveals itself - the Hoevense Beemden, a true natural spectacle steeped in water and natural art. If you are looking for a breathtaking route to walk, you should definitely try this nearly 20 kilometres of splendour, starting at the gates of Oudenbosch's train station. This railway station is one of the oldest in the Netherlands and was opened in 1854.

A gentle breeze whispers past you as you enter the Balrouwse Vaart, a narrow waterway winding through the Hoevense Beemden. Water is the lifeblood of this area, with numerous ponds and marshes where all kinds of animals such as fish, frogs and toads bask. Fishermen wait patiently along the river, canoeists glide across the water like graceful swans and rowers move like majestic herons. Here, time almost seems to stand still, and the views of lush nature are simply enchanting.

Continue along the Poldersdijk, a dike that winds along the Balrouwse Vaart. Each step on the paths reveals panaromic vistas of flowing waters and Dutch nature. Via the dike, you enter De Weelen, where you are surrounded by ponds and wetlands. Birds of all colours and sizes make this area their home - majestic swans, frolicking ducks, stately herons and magnificent egrets make this area their breeding ground. It is an ideal place for bird watchers as much as for walkers who want to be enchanted.

Continue along the Poldersdijk towards the Goudbloemsedijk. The Goudbloemsedijk is another invaluable vantage point overlooking the water and nature. Again, a prime location for walkers to enjoy; many a painter would want to use his brush to capture the beauty. Along the Goudbloemsedijk, you walk back into Oudenbosch.
