Filmtheater Fanfare | Thelma

Thelma, a "touching action comedy" is carried by some pretty elderly actors: the lead role, her first by the way after many supporting roles, of a 93-year-old grandmother is for June Squibb, who is the same age but still performs many of the 'stunts' herself. Actor Richard Roundtree plays his last role.

Debuting director Josh Margolin based the main character on his own grandmother.

On the phone, a crook manages to impersonate Thelma's grandson, who manages to extort $10,000 from her. She does not let that go unnoticed. Together with her friend, also elderly, she rides his mobility scooter in troubled Los Angeles in search of the perpetrators. Although this goes against the wishes of her patronising daughter and the overprotective concerns of her grandson.
