The first thing that should be mentioned about this week's film is its beautiful dressing and ditto design. We know director Klapisch from Encore (8.82) and Return en Bourgogne (8.0), which we showed earlier.
Coming together in the present day to inspect an inherited and long-abandoned house in the Normandy countryside, cousins Seb, Abdel, Céline and Guy discover that they share a special family history. It goes back to 1895, when one of their ancestors Adèle, then 21 years old, went to avant-garde Paris in search of her mother. There, the industrial and cultural revolution was then under way, including the rise of photography and the breakthrough of Impressionist painting.
Together, like Adèle's descendants, we follow her trail to discover that her story is intertwined with that vibrant art world and even intersects with the world of Claude Monet.
"A surprisingly enjoyable viewing adventure about family, love, ambitions and art, flitting back and forth between two junctures of time." (de Filmkrant)
