The start of the season is with the film that did very well in both cinemas and movie theatres over the summer; the ideal 'crossover' in other words.
The story is set around the historic Apollo 11 flight to the moon in 1969. Kelly Jones is hired to boost the image of Nasa, the US space agency, because things are not going so well in its competition with the Soviet Union. After all, President John F. Kennedy had already expressed his wish in 1961 for the first American to step on the moon in the foreseeable future.
The collaboration of Jones and Cole Davis, who is in charge of the moon mission, is not going well. When the president decrees that the mission must succeed no matter what, Jones has to film a staged moon landing as back-up. Perhaps fodder for later conspiracy theories?
"And that surprises you along the way anyway with its heartfelt message about the importance of truth and the necessary emotional depth. Fly me to the moon does not claim to be a historical lesson, but it does aspire to be more than a standard superficial romantic comedy." (NPO)
