It has been claimed that there would be few roles for parents actors and actresses. For quite some time now, the opposite has often been shown and after Rocco & Sjuul (8.25) we prove that with The return journey again.

They have been together for almost 50 years and Jan is not all that keen on it anymore. Buttje, even if she is sometimes a bit confused, does. When they receive a letter from their old holiday friend Luís, who says he won't live much longer, Jaap gives Maartje her due and the two of them travel to Spain in their old car, bickering and reminiscing. On the way, Jan slowly but surely and painfully has to conclude that his wife is demented. The realisation that this will change their lives brings the couple closer together again.
