Totone does as much as possible what most eighteen-year-olds do: party and drink beer with his friends, somewhere in the French Jura. But when his father drives into a tree drunk from one such party, he is suddenly thrown into the care of his seven-year-old sister and must devise a plan to earn money. A competition is organised nearby: whoever can make the best Comté cheese in the region will earn 30,000 euros.
There can hardly be any question of mourning: in the countryside, work simply has to continue, thus ensuring that the engaging teenager matures quickly.
"Courvoisier herself grew up in the village in the Jura where she Vingt dieux filmed and she made it a home game in other ways too: her sister handled production design, one brother helped build the sets and the other composed the music with her mother." (de Filmkrant)
