When a group of Italian guest workers makes an appearance in the quiet Oldenzaal of the early 1960s to keep the textile industry going, that peace does end.

The Italians work hard and do not complain, but also steal the hearts of the Twente girls.

One of the workers, Johanna, wants more than factory work and caring for her father and brother. She wants to move up, together with Francesco, one of the new Twente workers of Italian descent. She dreams of a career in the fashion industry.

Historic are the 'Spaghetti riots' that arose when tensions between the Twente people and the Italians reached boiling point and were the starting point for the fictional story of Counterpart.
