Director Sir Steve McQueen we remember from 12 years a slave (9.1) from 2014 and with Blitz he once again packs heavily in collaboration with the same production designer Adam Stockhausen and composer Hans Zimmer, among others. So it looks, albeit somewhat solid, beautiful.
In London during World War II, because of 'the Blitz': the ongoing German bombing of the city, mother Rita sends her 9-year-old son George to the English countryside for his own safety. This certainly does not please George and he is determined to return to his mother and grandfather Gerald. That is quite an undertaking....
"Cinematographically, the film is fine. Blitz doesn't blow you away, but the 'set pieces' (as we call them in English) are well portrayed. Zimmer's music is creditable, but it doesn't have the usual kick that takes so many of his films to the next level." (Cinemagazine)
