A standout in Oudenbosch's historic centre

This corner building has been an eye-catcher in Oudenbosch's historic centre for centuries.

Its origins most probably date back to the 17th century, when the village was rebuilt after the ravages of the Eighty Years' War. This property is one of the oldest surviving houses in Oudenbosch. Throughout its history, the property has had various functions, ranging from farm to grocery shop. It is also noteworthy that Cornelis "Kiske" Raaijmakers lived here. This talented artist from Oudenbosch admirably painted important parts of the interior of the Basilica in Oudenbosch.

One even whispered once that Pastor Hellemons would no doubt welcome him to heaven. To this, Raaijmakers replied with a quip that he hoped Hellemons would have his wallet with him then, because the painting work required much more commitment than was possible at the time.

The large window on the north facade still betrays where Raaijmakers had his studio. Recently, the house was fully restored.
