Filmtheater Fanfare | The promised land

Before we preview the winner of IFFR's audience award in a few weeks' time, we screen the number 3. With a 4.650, a 9.3 in Fanfar terms, a particularly high score in a film festival's most important list: that of the visitors.

The Denmark of 1755 takes us far back in time. Once again, Captain Ludvig Kahlen from King Frederick V's army wants to honour his monarch by establishing a colony on a piece of wild Danish heathland. As a reward, he expects a royal title with the accompanying honour and wealth.

However, according to landowner Frederick de Schinkel, the piece of land is in his possession and he has the power and resources to make things particularly difficult for Kahlen; when two of his workers have defected to the captain, he seeks revenge, but Kahlen is an honourable man.
